MUDDY JEWELS

MUDDY JEWELS

Straight out of Sydney’s muddy underbelly comes Muddy Jewels — a three-piece blend of alternative, grunge, and punk chaos. Formed in October 2023, the band features James De La Cuadra on vocals and guitar, Aimee Kordahi on bass, and Maddie Paton on drums. Fueled by punk grit, DIY ethics, and the grungy allure of the ’90s, Muddy Jewels craft a sound that’s loud, honest, and unapologetically real.

Maddie first got her start on the drums in primary school at the age of 9, and has been evolving as a player ever since. Spending her early teens playing along to Sia’s Some People Have Real Problems and her favourite OK Go tracks on a janky electronic drum kit, it was not long after she left high school to pursue music that Maddie started playing in venues before meeting their legal entry age. Since 2021, she has played in many local bands in Sydney and gained experience from being part of the scene. Taking influence from Jon Farriss’ funky grooves of INXS, Ashton Irwin’s solid backbeats from 5SOS, Dave Grohl’s heavy hitting and Ringo’s unique left-leading technique, Maddie is a combination of all the music she loves. Wearing shirts of her favourite pop divas and icons while hitting the tubs (Kesha being her greatest love of all), Muddy Jewels is where Maddie is most herself.

At 16, Aimee picked up her first bass and she’s been inseparable from it ever since. Years of bass lessons, a Tafe Music Cert 3 and a lot of jamming in her bedroom to The Strokes and Peach Pit followed. She draws inspiration from many sources, namely indie and rock artists like Fidlar, Alex G, Arctic Monkeys, The Brobecks, Skegss and the band that started it all for her after hearing their music and falling in love with bass, leading her to start playing, Måneskin. She has a special place in her heart for the emo scene too (we miss you Ryan Ross). Aimee’s been entranced by the magic of live music her whole life, knowing one day she was gonna be on that stage.

James, picked up the guitar at 17 after 2 previous failed attempts to learn guitar at age 7 and 15. He was inspired by the raw, unfiltered energy of the grunge scene an drawn to the DIY ethics of both grunge and punk, he found a creative fuel in bands like Nirvana, Bikini Kill, Misfits, Mudhoney, Wipers, Silverchair, Fang and Los Crudos. By age 20, he found a second home in the local Sydney music scene, where his sound and identity began to take shape. Loud and aggressive vocals with loud and earbleeding riffs, embracing imperfection in favor of pure expression. For James, it’s never been about being flashy — it’s about music that’s honest and hits hard
